German defender Paula Ruess has signed her first professional contract in her career. After a successful trial with Clube de Albergaria, the Portuguese club has signed Ruess for the 2023-2024 season, in which they will compete in the Liga BPI, the highest professional division in Portugal.

Before penning her first professional contract in Portugal, Ruess played during her college career for Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey. While at the FDU Knights, the German center back formed the backbone of the Knights’ defensive unit. With three Second Team All-NEC awards to her name, Ruess will be tough to replace. After graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University Ruess played for UPSL team New Jersey Alliance FC during the summer. With this team Paula was crowned UPSL Northeast Region champion.

Shortly after this success Ruess traveled to Europe, where she was invited to a trial by Portuguese side Clube de Albergaria. Clube de Albergaria is a renowned club in Portugal, gaining national status by being crowned vice-champion in the highest professional division on two occasions and reaching the cup final two times. With a number of additions to the team, Albergaria are looking to improve on last seasons 8th place finish.

We wish Paula good luck in Portugal and throughout her debut season in the Liga BPI!
