Sara Vijfhuizen will be joined by left back Diana Hilhorst at Fortuna Sittard for the 2024/2025 campaign. The Dutch left back has agreed to join the club from the Eredivisie, which finished fourth last season.

Hilhorst graduated from The University of Incarnate Word recently, where she has been a standout performer throughout her time with the program. In two fall seasons, she made 30 appearances for the Cardinals, starting 19 times. The left footed defender is known for her athleticism, her attacking abilities such as crossing, overlapping and scoring. During her second season with Incarnate Word the program saw a big improvement in results, going from 3-10-3 to 6-8-2 in her final campaign in Texas, just missing out on the conference tournament. Located in the 7th largest city in the US, the University of Incarnate Word is regarded as a prestigious university with a breath taking campus, where around 5.000 students reside. The women’s soccer team of the university play their games in the stunning Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium, which seats 6.000 visitors.

After becoming a Cardinal graduate, Hilhorst returned to Europe and was invited to a trial by Fortuna Sittard. The Eredivisie side was quickly impressed by the Dutch defender, who is eager to make her mark in her debut season in professional soccer: ”I am really looking forward to my first season in the Eredivisie with Fortuna Sittard and to perform well as a team”.
